After the initial release of the standard, two revisions per year are expected to be developed over the next years. Revised standards are to be developed using an effective and trusted process based on a six step process from initiating the revision to approving its release.
The process of developing a standard is typically facilitated by a Standards Development Organization (SDO), which adheres to fair and equitable processes that ensure the highest quality outputs and reinforce the market relevance of standards. For the original development, subject matter experts in standards development were consulted and incorporated into the process.
The development of the new standards is strictly governed and executed under clear and adhered guiding principles. For each revision, different participants may be involved. Ultimately, the consultative council will review revisions and approve them before being released. Based on the rules and criteria established by the SDO, participants may contribute at varying levels to the standards development process.
