Tourism Optimizer Platform (TOP) provides a portal for governments and providers to collaborate in governmental and institutional travel. But TOP goes also beyond that and is not only a portal for a new sector, but has developed a standard that helps bridge the gap in between provider services and governmental needs.
Governmental and Institutional travel drives complexity and special needs. Through formal methods of data gathering and complex modeling and data analysis, TOP has been able to normalize a set of standards for this industry. TOP is a project developed under the UNWTO affiliate members programme.
Diego Fuentes coined the term “Governmental and Institutional Travel and Tourism” for this sector of the tourism industry. Both, the recognition of this sector as well as the coining of the term, have been validated by academic institutions that recognize the claim and award the recognition of this sector and concept as of new creation.
TOP is a project to provide value to both governments and providers through a common standard that allows them to speak a common language and have smooth flows. TOP is managed as a non for profit organization and aims to be one reference in public-private collaboration.
GIWTS exploits some commercial rights which provide the funding for the continued effort and development of TOP and the standard together with all initiatives.
